What is throat cancer?

In medical terms, there is no such thing as "throat cancer". Rather there are several different types of cancer which can affect the throat, mouth, neck and chest. We have tried to be as comprehensive as possible with the different ways cancer can affect this part of the body.

We have chosen to use the general term "throat cancer" because patients and even some doctors will refer to "throat cancer" - rather than more specific cancer types.

We have done this for two reasons: to be accessible and easily found by our users, and because there are many types of cancer which can affect the throat, they all can be very debilitating when it comes to speaking, eating and swallowing. This is true of both the illness and the cure. Part of our mission is to ensure that patients and their loved ones get the support they need to overcome this illness. We know it is a hard fight but we are in your corner.

On this site you will find a comprehensive list of the cancers which affect the throat, information on the different treatment options, your rights as a patient, advice on nutrition, finance, staying positive, local support and more to make sure that you have all the weapons you need in your fight against cancer. We want to make patients and their loved ones know that they are not alone in their fight -  we are one of many organisations which can help you win the fight against cancer.
