I have just received my official bib number and my goodness, everything suddenly feels so real. Yesterday, I completed my last long practice run and managed 18 miles. They suggest hitting maximum 20, and for a non-runner I am pretty pleased with what I have managed to achieve.
Over the next couple of weeks I’ll be entering the tapering period, getting my body ready for the big 26.2 miles. Right now, the thought of running longer than 18 miles seems impossible, but I’m pinning all my hopes on the crowd to drag me across the finish line.
With that in mind, I have been overcome by the generosity of everyone in my life during this process. Whether it be digging deep to sponsor an amazing charity, or just regularly checking in to ask me how I am getting on. It’s crazy how inspired this can make you feel.
I’m excited to tie together all the final arrangements for the day, including planning where my family and friends are going to set up camp along the course, and most importantly where I will be heading for lots of celebratory drinks afterwards.
But for now, I’m planning to let my body recover over the next few days and crack on with some gym strengthening sessions.
Catch up with you soon!
