Throat Cancer Foundation fundraiser Giuseppe Miuccio has taken his extraordinary Run for Voices challenge onto BBC Radio, appearing on The Make a Difference Show, presented by Gaby Roslin, to share the personal story behind his mission.
Giuseppe is undertaking an ambitious global challenge: 50 kilometres in 50 countries to raise awareness of throat cancer and funds for the Throat Cancer Foundation. But this is not simply an endurance project. It is a deeply personal tribute to his uncle, Zio Nino, who was diagnosed with throat cancer and whose life, voice and confidence were profoundly affected by the disease.
For Giuseppe, every kilometre carries meaning. His challenge is about memory, family, grief and purpose — but also about making sure more people understand what throat cancer can do, and why awareness matters.
Throat cancer is still not widely understood. Too often, people associate it only with smoking or drinking, or do not recognise that persistent symptoms can be warning signs. For many patients and families, the disease can affect far more than the throat. It can change how someone speaks, eats, works, socialises and sees themselves.
That is why Giuseppe’s appearance on The Make a Difference Show matters. By speaking publicly about his uncle and the reason behind Run for Voices, he is helping bring throat cancer into conversations where it is too often absent.
The Throat Cancer Foundation is incredibly grateful to Giuseppe for his courage, commitment and determination. His challenge is already doing what awareness campaigns must do: making people stop, listen and think.
Gordon Dow, Chief Executive of the Throat Cancer Foundation, said: “Giuseppe is doing something extraordinary. This is not just a running challenge; it is an act of love and remembrance. By speaking about his uncle and taking this message across countries, communities and now onto national radio, he is helping people understand that throat cancer can take far more than a person’s health. It can take their voice, confidence and sense of self. We are deeply grateful for everything he is doing.”
Funds raised through Run for Voices will help support the Throat Cancer Foundation’s work to improve awareness, prevention, early diagnosis and patient information.
