Hertfordshire Family Organises Community Event Following Loss of Beloved Father and Grandfather

Remembering Vaughan Clements

On 10th February 2025, the Hertfordshire community lost a truly remarkable man. Vaughan Clements – beloved father, husband, grandpa, uncle and inspiration to all who knew him – passed away after a courageous battle with throat cancer.

Diagnosed in November 2024, Vaughan faced this devastating disease with incredible dignity and strength. Throat cancer robbed him of simple pleasures many take for granted – he couldn’t eat for months, could barely drink, and lost his mobility. Yet through it all, he never once complained.

“Throat cancer is a truly horrible disease which the family witnessed first hand… but Vaughan never once moaned or complained and showed what a truly strong-minded man he was,” said Kieren, the event organiser.

A Day of Celebration and Community

The Vaughan Memorial Trophy isn’t just about football – it’s about bringing the community together to celebrate an extraordinary life whilst supporting a vital cause. This inaugural event will see family take on family in a match that means so much more than the final score.

Kieren will captain one team whilst Vaughan’s son Grant Clements leads the opposition. They’ll be competing for the first-ever Vaughan Memorial Trophy – a fitting tribute to a man who brought people together.

What’s On

– Football Match: The inaugural Vaughan Memorial Trophy match between two family teams

– Food & Drink: Refreshments and food available throughout the day

– Bouncy Castle: Fun activities for children to enjoy whilst adults reminisce

– Community Spirit: An opportunity to share memories and celebrate Vaughan’s life

Supporting the Cause

Whilst there’s absolutely no pressure to donate, the organisers have set up a JustGiving page for those who’d like to support the Throat Cancer Foundation. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference.

Donations are handled securely through JustGiving, which never sells information or sends unwanted emails. Contributions go directly to the charity, making it the most efficient way to help.

More Than Just a Game

This memorial match represents something powerful – the community’s way of demonstrating that whilst illness may take loved ones, their impact on lives and their example of strength will endure forever.

Vaughan’s battle with throat cancer may have ended, but his legacy of courage, determination, and grace under pressure continues to inspire everyone who knew him. The Vaughan Memorial Trophy will ensure his memory lives on, year after year.

Join the Community

Whether visitors are coming to watch the match, enjoy the food, let children play, or simply to be part of a community coming together – all are welcome. This day is about celebrating life, supporting each other, and honouring a man who showed everyone what real strength looks like.

The Vaughan Memorial Trophy will become an annual event, ensuring Vaughan’s memory and the community spirit he inspired continues for generations to come.
