Major Breakthrough: Immunotherapy Doubles Remission Time

A significant advancement in treating head and neck cancers, including throat cancer, has emerged from the international phase III KEYNOTE-689 trial. The study demonstrated that administering the immunotherapy drug pembrolizumab (Keytruda) both before and after surgery, alongside standard treatments like radiotherapy and chemotherapy, extended the average cancer-free period from 2.5 years to 5 years. This approach also reduced the risk of cancer spreading to other parts of the body by 10%.
