Globally, head and neck cancer cases are on the rise, with smoking identified as a leading risk factor. These cancers encompass malignancies in areas such as the mouth, tongue, gums, throat, nasal cavity, and sinuses.
Additionally, the human papillomavirus (HPV) has been increasingly linked to throat cancers, particularly oropharyngeal cancers. Studies indicate that men, especially those with multiple oral sex partners, are at a higher risk of contracting HPV-related throat cancer. Despite the availability of the HPV vaccine to UK boys since 2019, uptake remains lower compared to girls, underscoring the need for increased awareness and vaccination efforts.
