Andi Woolass is taking on an immense challenge—covering 70 miles on foot in just 26 hours, scaling a gruelling 3,500 feet of elevation—all in a bid to raise funds and awareness of throat cancers. This cause is deeply personal, as his brother-in-law and thus his wife and family have been profoundly affected by the disease, with his late diagnosis having devastating consequences.
Determined to make a difference, Andi will run, walk, and, if necessary, crawl his way along the legendary Hadrian’s Wall. Starting at Carlisle Castle and finishing at Gateshead Baltic Quay, the route is a historic and physically demanding one, winding through breathtaking English countryside, moors, rivers, and valleys. The journey will end in a dramatic finale among the iconic bridges of the Newcastle Gateshead quayside.
When he signed up for this challenge in June, Andi was on crutches with a torn calf. Until recently, he had struggled to clock even 70 miles in total, while also carrying an extra 20 kg over his ideal weight. With little time to prepare, the 26-hour trek will push him to his limits—both physically and mentally. However, he remains undeterred, knowing that this challenge is nothing compared to the battle faced by those fighting cancer every day.
