A new UK charity is stepping forward to provide long-term support, advocacy and community for people whose lives have been permanently changed by laryngeal cancer — led by Throat Cancer Foundation ambassador Jon Organ.
For several years, Life After Lary created in 2023 as an online support portal has grown and has now officially become a registered charity, marking a major milestone in its mission to support individuals who have undergone laryngectomy or related treatment. The organisation offers peer support, practical guidance and a platform for shared experience, addressing the often-overlooked challenges faced after treatment ends.
For Jon, founder and Joint CEO of Life After Lary, along with fellow laryngectomee Ian Phillipson the charity is the culmination of years of advocacy work within the throat cancer community. As an ambassador for the Throat Cancer Foundation, he has long been committed to raising awareness of laryngeal and throat cancers and amplifying the voices of those affected.
“Becoming a charity marks a huge step forward for Life After Lary,” Jon said. “It gives us the foundations and the legitimacy to reach more people, strengthen our services and ensure that every person living after a laryngectomy has somewhere to turn.”
While advances in cancer treatment continue to improve survival rates, Jon highlights that life after treatment can be isolating and complex — particularly for those living without a natural voice.
“Too many people feel isolated after surgery, unsure where to find practical advice or a community that truly understands what life looks like now,” he said. “Our aim is to change that.”
Through his ambassador role with the Throat Cancer Foundation, Jon has consistently championed the need for better post-treatment support, awareness and dignity for survivors. Life After Lary builds on that work by creating a dedicated space where people can share experiences, access reliable guidance and feel less alone.
The charity is also committed to advocacy, aiming to influence greater understanding of life after laryngectomy and improvements in services and care pathways.
“We want to be a strong voice on the issues that matter to those living with life after laryngectomy — from awareness and understanding through to better support systems,” Jon explained. “This is about more than organisational status. It’s about standing alongside people whose lives have changed forever and making sure they have the visibility and respect they deserve.”
As both a charity leader and a Throat Cancer Foundation ambassador, Jon hopes Life After Lary will help bridge the gap between diagnosis, treatment and long-term survivorship — ensuring no one is left to navigate life after laryngeal cancer alone.
