On February 10, 2025, the world lost a remarkable man, Vaughan Clements, to throat cancer. A devoted father to Justine Flanagan, Grant Clements, and Keeley Clements, Vaughan faced his illness with unwavering strength and resilience. Diagnosed in November 2024, he endured immense challenges, including the loss of his ability to eat and drink, as well as diminished mobility. Yet, throughout his battle, Vaughan never complained, exemplifying his steadfast character.
To honour Vaughan’s memory and raise awareness about the devastating impact of throat cancer, his son-in-law, Kieren Flanagan, has organized a special memorial football match. Scheduled for Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Wormley Football Club, Hertfordshire, this event will feature two teams: one led by Kieren and the other by Vaughan’s son, Grant. They will compete for the Vaughan Memorial Trophy, celebrating Vaughan’s love for the sport and his enduring legacy.
The day promises to be a family-friendly affair, complete with food, drinks, and a bouncy castle for children. All proceeds from the event will support the Throat Cancer Foundation, a charity dedicated to funding medical research, improving treatment processes, and providing support to both patients and medical professionals. By contributing to this cause, participants and donors will aid in the fight against this debilitating disease and help prevent others from experiencing similar hardships.
Kieren and the entire Clements family invite friends, family, and community members to join them in commemorating Vaughan’s life and supporting a cause that affects countless individuals and families. Your participation and generosity will make a meaningful difference in the lives of those battling throat cancer.
For more details about the event or to make a donation, please visit Kieren’s JustGiving page. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to a world without throat cancer.
“Let’s come together to celebrate Vaughan’s legacy and support the Throat Cancer Foundation in their mission to improve lives and find a cure”.
